optimo trax is an offshoot label of optimo music for tracks aimed at djs/dancefloors. yes, we know there are too many record labels already, but we felt an overriding desire to start another one as so much music that didnt seem quite right for optimo music (i.e. music that was specifically designed for dancing) kept coming our way. like the parent label, optimo trax will release music by new artists and excavate forgotten classics. luma is a project by dave clark from glasgow. dave had his first release as a member of state of flux in 1993 on t&b vinyl, the label twitch ran with his dj partner of that era, brainstorm. twitch and dave have continued to work together in various ways ever since. he has released records as truffle club, and as big ned on optimo music as well as working with twitch from 2005 - 2010 remixing a plethora of artists under the optimo (espacio) moniker before fatherhood necessitated him focusing on changing nappies rather than programming synths. dave has also recorded under various aliases for r&s, numbers, stuffrecords, dissident and wireblock. the twentieth anniversary of that first release seemed a fitting date for dave to unleash his monster new club music alter ego, luma on optimo trax. twitch thinks dave is the best producer in scotland and endlessly weeps into his gin and tonics about how unprolific dave is, so was ecstatic when the 4 killer tracks were delivered that make up this third optimo trax ep. these have been thoroughly road tested over the last few months at gigs around the world.

pov is joakim x crackboy and they make arab ghetto techno (which is sort of legitimate since they both have arabic/middle eastern roots). crowdspacer (or crwdspcr as a tribute to merce cunninghams dance performance) is a vinyl-only label dedicated to outstanding club music launched by tigersushis founder and musician/dj/producer, joakim.

r&s keep things in the family with mpia3s brother tessela dropping his debut ep for the label. since 2011, ed russell has been moulding a style of dance music as tessela that has evolved to become a distinctly futuristic animal that is equal parts rave, jungle and techno as it incorporates classic breaks into delirious new mutations. the three tracks on this ep all follow on from his superb *hackney parrot* track but evolve his sound even further. nancys pantry combines bruising kick drums and some slick editing of the think break, before plunging headlong into thundering techno. horizons percolating hi hats and rough-hewn percussion roll off repeating chords that recall the heady days of rave. gateways uncomplicated arrangement of high hats, sub bass, siren like synths and quaking kick drums rattle through the tracks chassis and club soundsystems. early supporters to the tracks include ben ufo, pariah, surgeon, pearson sound and paul woolford, testement to what might be tesselas most lethal offering yet.

adriatique presents - lophobia almost one year ago adriatique released their last ep on culprit la after their debut solo record on the diynamic imprint last summer. many highlights appeared since then. a lot of successful remixes, a heavy touring schedule, a weekly ibiza residency and great recognition within the diynamic family.

at a young age still influenced by u.s. hiphop stars such as n.w.a., public enemy or run dmc, the love to electronic music has also been growing over the years. sebastian phillip has since appeared in numerous prestigious clubs in the country and also at the berlin loveparade.

ol aka oleg buyanov is well known in his native russia already. he has a background extending from releases on faces records and scuzzy lo-fi hip hop beats on labels like error broadcast, idle and fine grains dating back to 2007. more recently though he has been increasingly turned on by dance floor focussed sounds and as such, here come two missives on russias capital bass (which also hosts a popular bass and garage night in moscow and has done since 2006).

since day one, radiq has been showing an affinity for the afro-centric funkiness and carefully-honed sound design of modern days minimal music. as in many of his previous tracks, all six songs of >vida noir< has this certain kind of unyielding quality - long, hypnotic grooves with muted kick drum set the stage for more emancipated experiments in texture and sound design. on >a long hot summer break<, for example, the effect is utterly obvious as kicking its ass into gear with syncopated drums and strain of warm chords before animated vocal sample slips in like fingerprint. while deeply seductive interplay of those chugging percussion gives way to delighted horn of >a-dieu<, warm chord and acoustic guitar of >calling< is perfect example for radiq’s masterful sound and texture. >machine codes modified< has rather restrained structure for him, but tightly woven drums speaks eloquently about its carefully arranged funkiness and dance floor functionality. despite their repetitiveness, its surprising how well these productions forming cohesive solidarity as an album. presumably, it owes a lot to wide tonal vocabulary which is radiqs hallmark - these tracks has something concentrated, vivid qualities. this album sits just at the edge of the dance floor, but also performs its exceptional strength on intense home listening. dusky synth and truncated surge of bass of >vida noir< constructing something dark, before closing this album with modulated afro-acoustic guitar and deep falsetto voice (by the producer himself) of >rondo<. this album offers up an engaging and comprehensive amalgamation from the inquisitive sound by the maestro

cambridge resident samuel emerson iliffe, aka ill life, is driven by a penchant for warping things. akin to warping his sonorous surname into the ill life moniker, he warps formely innocuous techno fare into a clangorous, concussive march of living, breathing percussion. samuels sonics seemingly owe a considerable amount to recent innovations from the likes of blawan or perc trax alumni, however his only fault is taking part in the phenomenon of synchronous innovation. before karenn coalesced, before clouds newest offerings started being rinsed, ill life had long since moulded his sound. it is infinite machines infinite regret to have discovered him so belatedly. but there is no use crying over spilled trax.

since his first single masquerade dropped on vinyl just over a year ago, forrests profile has continued to rise, with releases on noir music and mobilee and forthcoming on visionquest.

people get ready! heres the first of several studio barnhus releases to come from 20-year-old stockholm native baba. despite his youth, this former ballet dancer has an impressive discography under his belt, having been one of the strongest forces of the elusive skweee scene since 2008 while also releasing two albums of dreamy folk pop under his betlehem beard corporation alias. our girls is a raw, bouncy house jam recorded to cassette in three different tempos and arrangements. enjoy!

messalina records return with a fantastic ep of eclectic dancefloor bubblers from fellow we love space residents jamie fatneck low and lucci capri (aka dj callum). first up is the eagerly awaited vinyl release of fatnecks incredible acid rework of michael jacksons classic billie jean, highly in-demand since receiving heavy rotation from greg wilson (the only dj lucky enough to have a copy) who nicely sums the track up...i love the way fatneck has put a somewhat psychotic twist on billie jean via his acid interpretation - inspired west yorkshire wacko madness! next up lucci capri delivers the quirky balearic chugger dame un beso, with super-sweet latino lyrics and a great reggae-influenced swing. flip over for the beautifully understated because today i saw u which melds a cool deep house groove with esther phillips yearning vocals. rounding off the ep in style is fatnecks superb dancefloor-friendly edit of the aretha franklin version what a fool believes. great stuff - welcome back messalina!

samuli kemppi played live twice at suicide circus, and since his energetic sound really fit well with our club, we started talking to each other about a release on our dark series imprint. so here we go now, after releases on labels such as prologue, mote evolver and perc trax, samuli kemppi now is ready to rock your boat with three tracks on our label, which define a very particular sound of their own. last day on earth brings samulis apocalyptic vision to the dancefloors. dark hisses, well scaped spaces and a hookline with the pull of a spacecraft make up for a track that with no doubt will be one of the techno anthems of the next months. a killer of a track! on the b-side spacing has similar sound aesthetics as last day on earth, but comes along more playful whereas calling approaches the apocalyptic theme from a very different angle. bleepy synths over a banging beat let you think of laser shots in the dark, haunting and scary.

somehow its been two years since tic tac toe boss patrick bateman stepped up on his own label for a full release, but thankfully he now returns with a new single club queen - complete with remixes from frank haag, billy johnston & gennaro mastrantonio - that reasserts his authority as the label s finest exponent.

laurent garnier on tribute & fantasy ep: since the very first ep arno released a few years back on his own imprint, i have been a big fan of his productions. arno has always stood apart from the so-called hype and has developed his own style of trippy-as-hell dancefloor grooves.
